Old time favourites - I
With probassfisher fast approaching 900 posts there’s a lot of stuff on here. Now, in hindsight I would like to re-write some of it, but simply don’t have the time. Maybe its better left as is! As I move into year five for this blog and the tenth year of guiding, the challenge isn’t for want of material but rather what to leave out, find the time and how to improve in the way I’ve built this web-log so far.
As I’ve been thinking about this over the last few weeks I’ve realised that I want to write less frequently and try to improve the quality of the posts from a technical view and the approach to the fishing. There’s a fine line here, plus a limitation of ability!

Where do you get yours from?

I would never persist in trying to set people right, I simply don't have the time nor would I have the inclination. Remaining indifferent to whether advice is taken or not is an essential survival tool in this game. However when I do give advice I would never expect it to be used against me, especially when the advice given is not adhered to, applied or understood properly. Its often interesting and sometimes very frustrating to see it re-emerge and re-interpreted completely incorrectly!
When I need it, the type of advice and who I seek it from is generally based on a few things like education, a lot of trust, many years of valid comparative experiences and demonstrated years of business. I take it and use it and learn from it and at times I apply it or not,I am on my own journey! I don't use it to beat the people I got it from because I don't understand it fully or have applied it incorrectly.
In the midst of whats available out there to you don't confuse good bass fishing advice with someones imagined angling competency!

International interest in Irish bass angling - 2012

My good friend Markus Mueller from Inland Fisheries Ireland was so kind to pass me your contact-dates.
The point is, we are looking for a guide in 2012 for bass-fishing to produce articles and video-clips for the German angling-market. And Markus recommended you at very first!
I had a longer talk to some of the German staff from Tourism Ireland about the idea with that bass-in-ireland-story and they do want to promote this trip in every way they can.
I would do that trip together with Holger Hoener (owner of Germany’s biggest Angling-Web.TV-site www.bissclips.tv) and Markus Müller (he'll try to join us!) and we would like to produce the following
1. several Clips about bass-fishing with spinning-rod and fly-rod to be spread via bissclips.tv
2. article in fishing-magazine Rute&Rolle (www.ruteundrolle.de): story would be published within the “Jig&Jerk”-special (modern predator-fishing) inside a regular Rute&Rolle-issue and again in the comprehensive Jig&Jerk-special-issue
3. article in flyfishing-magazine Fisch & Fliege
4. several small articles in FishMaps Ireland (www.fish-maps.de is online since 1/2009 and the section about Ireland will be online in a few weeks)
So, Jim, would be great, if you would like to be our Guide and perhaps tell me, which time would be best to plan that trip (I already had a look at your quite good filled calendar). Holger Hoener, Markus Mueller and me would have time between beginning of July and end of September. Any suggesttions?
One last thing: You've got a truly brilliant website!! Great pics and great, great content ....! I especially like your approach to current topics like sustainability, bass-protection etc.; really fine to see, that these thoughts are spread more and more between anglers ...

Lately
I've had to keep the head down, for the past while so things have been neglected here a lot. With the loss of my camera earlier in the autumn followed shortly by laptop failure (but not the data or the files) it seems to have been a year of technological attrition. But here I am now with a bit of breathing space. Theres no doubt that being back at school is proving very demanding of what time I have.
I've done a lot of personal fishing along the West coast over the last two tidal series, just being out there with no schedule or demand other than tide was truly spectacular at times.
Even enjoyed a brilliant short surface session on Tuesday afternoon with Andrew.
I'm looking forward to guiding my first International customers next week for Pike Fishing - with the boat now up to my satisfaction - flooring, finder,electric engine and other safety and fishing equipment I'm happy to try and forge ahead and do a bit of Autumn work hopefully building this new service into the Spring of 2012.
If you heard all the chat based around Bass Fishing on the radio during the week, you can pick up the program from the link in the posting below. Theres no doubt that this issue is not going away. I think you know my feelings on this issue and like most things in this country its time to stop looking at get rich quick fixes for a few and start thinking about long term sustainable plans.
I am conscious that a few of you are waiting for CD's of photos that I made during the year I'll get these away to you in the next few days now that I have my technology back!

Why cant we add quality, challenge, wonderful environments, a sense of worth and something to be cherished to the perception of the fishery. The fish are integral parts of many places - if we do it right....!
